Conservation Agriculture and Controlled Traffic Farming. With increasing demand for food production for the world’s growing population the pressure at land and natural resources becomes of importance. Together with times of unsafe profit margins and increasing concerns about changing climate and environmental sustainability of agriculture, new options for farming have to be sought.

Conservation Agriculture is becoming increasingly popular in many countries and has exceeded by now 100 million ha of farmland in diverse ecosystems around the globe. It appears to be a most promising concept allowing high production levels, safe profit margins for the farmers combined at the same time with improved ecosystem services and environmental sustainability as well as a good potential for climate change adaptation and mitigation. |

Controlled Traffic Farming on the other hand is the safest option to avoid soil compaction under all conditions and to facilitate mechanized farming. By never driving over the cropped area of the fields, this technology has a good potential for increasing yields, reducing operation costs and contributing to reducing the environmental footprint of agriculture. |
Both Conservation Agriculture and Controlled Traffic Farming are aiming at improving soil structure. Both have merits in their own rights and can be implemented separately, but in combination they complement each other for additional synergy effects.
