The food industry faces major challenges in the years to come. Retailers and consumers make new demands on food producers almost every day. They demand safe, high-quality, low-cost food, forcing food producers to incorporate innovation into the value chain. In order to be innovative it is not sufficient to launch new flavours or packaging formats. We believe that the food industry can enhance its reputation through co-operation across different industries, companies and new research initiatives. We play the role of “bridge builder” between the research and business world every day. We are involved in different research and innovation projects – e.g. breaking the transmission cycle of disease in poultry; reducing the climate impact of food products; and promoting climate-friendly cattle production.
Life cycle assessment (LCA)
Consumers demand sustainable products. At the same time, retailers requests food producers to document the environmental impact of their products in terms of grams of CO2 emissions. We conduct consumer surveys of attitudes towards food and environmental issues – including product labelling. We use Life cycle assessments to evaluate the environmental impact of the production, processing, use, disposal and transport of raw materials. Moreover, we generate ideas to reduce CO2 emissions.
